What is My Places Bar and
what
Truly Your Places Bar does for you?
Windows® XP provides, in the Open File dialog (or Save
File dialog), a pane of shortcuts on the left. You can use it to
save time getting to your folders and files.
By default, My Places Bar contains shortcuts to the My Recent
Documents, Desktop, My Documents, My Computer, and My Network
Places folders.
This is a great feature of Windows XP and a great time saver. There
is, however, one tiny problem with it:
Your
frequently
used folder is not among those five shortcuts - and there is no way
for you, the user, to replace even one of those with your own
shortcut.
Fortunately, with
Software
Candy's
Truly
Your
Places Bar™ you can accomplish just that - replace the
last shortcut (My Network) with any folder in your system (even a
network folder!).
When you install Software Candy's Truly Your Places Bar, you will
be prompted with the following folder selection dialog box. You
then select your favorite frequently used folder, which will
replace the My Network shortcut (the bottom most icon).
Then, from now on, whenever your invoke the Save (or Open) File
dialog box, you will be able to select, with a
single click, your
favorite frequently
used folder:
Note:
The free
version of Software Candy's Truly Your Places Bar™ Bar allows
you to replace only one shortcut - and it is always the bottom
one. The Pro version, Truly Your Places Bar Pro™, allows you
to replace all five shortcuts.
News Update: Starting from version 2.0,
this product
allows you to work its magic within
Limited
accounts as
well. To take advantage of this feature, simply log into the
account in which you want to customize My Places Bar and run:
- Start Menu > All Programs >
SoftwareCandy>
TrulyYourPlacesBar > Setup for Additional
Accounts
You will be guided by Software Candy's friendly installation wizard
in exactly the same way as that of the master setup file. Just make
sure that when you first install the master setup file you
downloaded, the master account in which you perform the
initial install is a member of the
Administrators
group only
(no additional groups).
In order to immediately enjoy this great time saver, all you
need to do is:
