What is File Time and
what does FileHourFix do?
In Windows, every file has an associated
creation time,
last modified time and last accessed time. Time
means the
year, month, day and the actual hour, minute and second.
Other devices which create or store digital photos, documents
and other files, associate a timestamp (or more) with a file, too.
Sometimes, because the computer had its clock set inaccurately
or
for other reasons (e.g. different time zones, operating
systems, time notation conventions), you may find yourself in
a situation
where you have to modify only the hour in which a collection of files
were created, last
modified (edited) or last accessed (read).
Depending on the Windows edition, changing the date or time even for a
a file could be tricky and require certain technical skills. Moreover,
even for those skilled in the art, changing the time for a given
collection of files would be tedious and time consuming.

Note: It goes without saying that
you can only change the time of a files to which you have
write
access. This is especially true in Windows 7, which has
stronger protection for system files.

No desktop icons will be installed, as to
avoid cluttering your desktop. Instead, you will find a Software Candy
entry in your Start Menu, which allows you to uninstall it, should you
ever want to do this.
The date and time a file was created, accessed, or changed is an
integral (sometimes critical) part of the file, whether this
information is needed for legal purposes, entertainment or just proper
system operation. Modern operating systems keep records of at
least these three values for each file and directory. They are also
known as time stamps (or timestamps).
Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 record and track at least the
following three timestamps:
- Date Created: When a file or directory is newly created,
this value is set and never changes (unless manipulated by a tool
like FileHourFix). A new copy of a file
saved to a different location, is regarded as a new file and thus has
its own creation time stamp.
- Date Modified: Also known as the Last Written
date. When you (or a computer program) changes the contents of a file a
directory, this time value changes. Note that renaming a file is not
considered content change.
- Date Accessed: Shows the last time the file was
accessed or read.
By nature, time stamps are neither foolproof nor
temper-proof. There are many reasons why the dates and times recorded
for a given file may be inaccurate. For example, the
computer’s system clock may have been incorrectly set or a file
originating in one computing device (digital camera, smartphone,
iPhone, iPad or other mobile device).

Do I have to know what a command line is?

version can only change the three timestamps listed in the advanced
tab: Created, Modified, Accessed.
